Faces of Diversity
Liza de Vries

Liza-de-Vries200Lizabeth Nan de Vries practices law to advocate for vulnerable individuals and worthy causes. Her practice focuses on elder and dependent-adult abuse, civil-rights litigation, and juvenile law. Since she joined the Scott Law Firm in 2003, Liza has represented numerous elderly or infirm individuals, and their families, who could not find counsel who were either willing or able to assist them. Her clients seek legal services at each conflict level—from early-stage negotiations to state and federal courts.

A community leader, Liza donates her time by speaking at conferences and consulting with non-profit and government entities to assist them and their constituents to prevent and civilly prosecute elder and dependent-adult abuse. Fluent in French and Spanish, Liza also does pro bono legal work. In 1995, Liza founded the local chapter of a statewide program that teaches high-school students about the law, Youth & Government, which she still oversees while also serving on the Embarcadero YMCA’s board of managers.

She received her double bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara and earned her law degree from the University of San Francisco, where she published a critique of Proposition 21 and held the position of Comments Editor.
