Faces of Diversity
Elder & Dependent Adult Abuse

Unmatched Experience

Nationally between one to two million Americans who are 65 or older have been injured, exploited or mistreated by someone they trusted. California’s lawmakers recognized how difficult it was for individuals to remedy these injustices. So they enacted laws which encouraged civil lawyers to deter elder abuse by suing the predators in civil courts.

The Scott Law Firm draws from our team’s extensive experience with civil-rights litigation to represent elders, dependent adults and their families. Our firm is one of the few in Northern California that has the competence to handle these difficult cases. We are proven advocates for those who can not speak for themselves.

Financial Abuse: To an alarming degree, unscrupulous people are providing elders with inaccurate information about housing and health-care costs to lure them into virtually giving away their assets. Financial-abuse victims often purchase unsuitable services, products, real property, investments, annuities, loans and reverse mortgages. Victims are often cheated out of their retirement savings, and sometimes even their homes.

Neglect/Physical Abuse: Neglect and physical abuse covers a large spectrum of neglectful, violent or abusive conduct which results in impairment, pain or serious injury. Also, the improper use of drugs, physical restraints, forced feeding, or physical punishment may qualify as physical abuse. Neglect or physical abuse often results tragically with a serious injury, or even death.

Please contact the proper authorities in California if you suspect that elder abuse is occurring. Call the Statewide Elder Services locator number at (800) 510-2020 for your county’s Adult Protective Services or ombudsman telephone numbers.
